As reported by BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel, Everton, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have all made “discreet enquiries” over a potential move for Williams.
The 25-year-old, who came through Liverpool’s academy, has been one of Forest’s standout performers, registering two goals and four assists in 51 appearances across all competitions this season.
Williams, naturally a left-back, is also effective on the right side of defence, and that versatility is undoubtedly attractive to Everton.
Forest, for their part, are determined to keep the Welsh international. They have already opened talks with Williams over a contract extension, despite his current deal running until 2029.
Everton to trigger Mykolenko extension amid Williams interest
Vitaliy Mykolenko has been Everton’s first-choice left-back for years. While he is solid defensively, he remains limited in attack.
The Ukrainian international’s contract expires at the end of next season, but TEAMtalk understands Everton are set to trigger a one-year extension clause in his deal to avoid the risk of losing him for free.
However, that does not necessarily mean he will stay at the club. Everton are expected to assess their options regarding Mykolenko this summer, and a sale cannot be ruled out.
Williams has shown this season that he can contribute effectively at both ends of the pitch for Forest and would likely slot straight into Moyes’ starting XI should Everton secure his signature.
Luring him away from Forest will not be straightforward, though, especially with interest from clubs such as Manchester United. Everton are therefore keeping alternative left-back targets on their shortlist.
TEAMtalk insider Fraser Fletcher reported yesterday that Wolves star Hugo Bueno is another player under consideration.
The 23-year-old Spaniard is expected to leave Wolves this summer and would be open to remaining in the Premier League.
