Just In Everton Secured The Signature Of A World-class Player

Everton manager David Moyes has admitted the club must “go again” next season after a frustrating finish to their Premier League campaign despite showing strong progress for most of the year.

The Toffees spent large parts of the season pushing for a top-half finish and even looked capable of challenging for European places after impressive wins away at Manchester United and Aston Villa.

However, a poor run of seven matches without a win completely derailed their momentum and eventually saw Everton finish 13th in the table once again.

Speaking after the narrow defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Moyes admitted he was disappointed with how the season ended but believes there are still positives to build on under the Friedkin Group ownership.

Everton entered the March international break in touch with the top six after a promising season developed off the back of impressive away form that included statement wins at Manchester United and Aston Villa.

But just three points from the final seven matches left the Blues in the bottom half, just one point better off than the total they earned in each of the previous two campaigns.

Asked whether he thought that was a fair reflection of the season, Moyes said: “Probably not, but I think it’s more of a reflection of what the Premier League’s been like this year.

The Everton boss also revealed that defender Jarrad Branthwaite was a “huge miss” during key moments of the season and explained that injuries and squad limitations affected the team badly in the second half of the campaign.

Moyes admitted Everton cannot compete financially with clubs capable of spending £200 million in one transfer window, but insisted the club can still continue making gradual progress if the right steps are taken this summer.

Despite the disappointing finish, Moyes believes Everton were comfortably better than the relegation battle for most of the campaign and says the objective now is to keep building towards a stronger future.

The Ukrainian defender’s new deal will run until June 2029 with the option for a further year.
