Former Everton defender Michael Ball says the club’s owners must now show real ambition if they want to move the team forward. With the new Hill Dickinson Stadium already in place and ticket prices rising, supporters are expecting results on the pitch.
Ball pointed to clubs like Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, and Newcastle as examples of teams that have overtaken Everton through better recruitment and stronger backing from ownership.
He says fans are tired of excuses and want a team competing for trophies, not one stuck in mid-table.
He also criticized Everton’s recent transfer windows, especially January, calling them a missed opportunity. The club knew they needed a right-back but failed to sign one after Kenny Tete stayed at Fulham.
“You can’t keep delaying important signings and expect the team to improve,” Ball said.
“If you want to compete, you have to act early and back the manager properly. Waiting until the end of the window just to save wages sends the wrong message.”
Ball also questioned whether uncertainty around David Moyes’ long-term future affected recruitment decisions.
He believes Everton missed a real chance to push for European qualification because the squad wasn’t properly strengthened.
Meanwhile, fresh tension has emerged around young defender Adam Aznou.
Aznou has deleted Everton-related photos from his Instagram and unfollowed the club’s official account.
The defender did not play a single league minute this season despite being fit and available.
The situation has triggered backlash from fans, many of whom believe he was unfairly overlooked during a difficult defensive campaign.
Some supporters argued online that he deserved chances ahead of senior players, while others said they understand his frustration.
Reports from fans and online sources claim Aznou became increasingly unhappy after repeated omissions, even after strong training performances.
There are also claims circulating on social media that he could consider leaving this summer if his situation does not improve. One alleged quote shared online reads: “He’s not good enough to start ahead of me.”
Another widely shared but unverified message says: “I will never play for the club again… I’m quitting.”
These claims remain unconfirmed, but his social media activity has fuelled speculation.
With Friedkin preparing a major summer rebuild, Everton now face growing pressure to fix recruitment, manage young players better, and restore trust with supporters.
