The Magpies have reopened talks ahead of a possible move, but Trafford doesn’t want to decide his future until after the World Cup.
That makes a move complicated for Newcastle, as they want to solve their goalkeeping situation earlier, despite already securing the signing of Jaouen earlier in the window.
With Newcastle already securing the signature of a new goalkeeper and also pursuing Trafford, it feels like it could be the end for Nick Pope.
Having two new goalkeepers plus Pope wouldn’t make a lot of sense, so the Magpies could be considering cashing in.
Pope has struggled at times over the last few years with consistency, often making mistakes.
Trafford, hailed as “world-class” by Scott Parker, would likely want to come in as the number one goalkeeper after his difficulties at Manchester City, with Jaouen likely to be the number two.
After solving the goalkeeper situation, there’s no doubt Newcastle need reinforcements in other areas of the pitch.
