There has been plenty of speculation over whether Rashford could remain at Old Trafford or leave before the transfer window closes, but according to Manchester Evening News journalist Ty Marshall, United’s recruitment strategy has stayed largely the same regardless of the outcome.
Speaking about the club’s transfer plans, Marshall explained that Manchester United are still expected to prioritise adding quality on the left side, with the focus being either on signing a natural left-back or another left-sided attacker. The club’s decision will depend on market opportunities rather than Rashford’s situation alone.
He also pointed out that Patrick Dorgu’s ability to operate in multiple positions is viewed as a significant advantage. The versatile defender is capable of playing as a traditional left-back, wing-back, or even further forward, giving the coaching staff valuable tactical flexibility throughout the season.
Because of that versatility, United are not under pressure to completely reshape their plans if Rashford remains at the club. Instead, they will continue monitoring targets who can improve the squad and provide greater competition in wide areas.
Despite the ongoing links, completing a deal for one of their preferred defensive targets will be far from straightforward. Any move would require negotiations with a club that is under no financial pressure to sell and has made it clear that keeping its core players together is a priority.
Newcastle United are determined to avoid losing more important first-team stars after already dealing with significant transfer speculation this summer. The club remain ambitious under Eddie Howe and want to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours rather than weakening it.
That means Manchester United cannot simply submit an offer and expect negotiations to progress quickly. Any potential transfer would likely depend on the player himself expressing a desire to make the move, as Newcastle currently hold the strongest negotiating position.
Even then, convincing Newcastle to part with one of their brightest young talents would be a difficult task, especially given the player’s importance to the club’s long-term plans and his impressive development over the past two seasons.
The player attracting Manchester United’s attention is Lewis Hall, with the talented England international understood to be the left-back discussed internally as a potential target. However, unless Hall actively pushes for a move, Newcastle are expected to resist any attempts to prise him away from St James’ Park this summer.
