Whatever happens between now and the end of this long Championship season, the approaching summer looks set to be a period of major changes for Leicester City.
Should relegation be confirmed, it remains to be seen which players would be willing to grit their teeth and remain loyal to the Foxes in the depths of the third tier, with Abdul Fatawu likely to be on his way out, given that he was previously valued at a staggering £30 million.
Leicester will also want to offload players who have had their day, with names such as Ricardo Pereira and Patson Daka likely to leave, having been with the club throughout its rise and subsequent fall.
There is, however, one player in particular with whom the former Premier League champions will have to part ways, regardless of the final outcome of the season.
Signed from Crystal Palace for around £8 million in the summer of 2024, Jordan Ayew has never really managed to make his mark.
With 305 Premier League appearances to his name, Foxes fans would have expected Ayew to make the second-tier league a walk in the park.
Instead, he has made it a real chore, with his lack of success in front of goal continuing to exasperate King Power supporters, who are already on edge.
To begin with, Ayew has not been a complete failure since leaving Selhurst Park to try and recapture glory in the twilight of his career with the Foxes.
Indeed, he has scored 11 goals in 70 appearances, including five this season, thanks to his versatility and flexibility in attack.
However, since finishing off that fine team move against West Bromwich Albion in early January, the ageing number 9 has remained rather quiet.
Eleven matches have now passed without the 34-year-old making a significant contribution in terms of goals, his status as a regular starter having been relegated to the background under Rowett.
He was particularly quiet against Norwich City in late February, managing just six unremarkable touches during a 14-minute appearance as a substitute for Daka.
With Daka also having contributed to three goals since the Ghanaian found himself in the right place at the right time to convert his shot against the Baggies, it seems almost inevitable that Ayew will leave Leicestershire when his contract expires.
After all, if Leicester are to see a new dawn next season following the disaster of this campaign, they must not insist on keeping a player whose career is arguably behind him and who, at nearly 35, is past his prime.
He enjoyed a brilliant career at the highest level with Marseille and Crystal Palace, but his spell at Leicester seems set to end on a rather bitter note.
