Abdulhafiz TeslimEverton have reportedly made a direct approach to sign Alexander Sørloth from Atlético Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the Norway international is not currently open to joining the Toffees, which could make negotiations difficult for David Moyes and Everton’s hierarchy.
Moretto also suggested that Atletico would likely demand a fee in the region of £25.9million before considering a sale.
Sørloth would represent a major statement signing for Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group, although convincing the striker to return to the Premier League may prove challenging.
Speaking on MARCA on 22 May, Moretto said: “There’s another club that has made a slightly stronger, slightly more direct approach to Atletico and that’s Everton. But for the moment, the player isn’t open to that possibility. So, I don’t see Sørloth going to Everton as a good move. I think it’ll be around £25.9m.”
The Norwegian striker has developed into one of Europe’s most reliable forwards since his difficult spell with Crystal Palace between 2018 and 2020.
After prolific campaigns in Spain and Turkey, Sørloth earned a move to Atletico in 2024 and has continued to impress in both La Liga and European competition.
Everton have several reasons to pursue the experienced striker. Not only would he add proven goalscoring ability, but he would also bring valuable European experience to a squad aiming to push further up the Premier League table.
Moyes could attempt to persuade Sørloth by offering him a guaranteed starting role, something he has not consistently enjoyed under Diego Simeone this season.
Meanwhile, questions remain over the consistency of Everton’s current attacking options, including Beto and Thierno Barry.
With creative players such as Iliman Ndiaye supplying chances in attack, Everton may believe Sørloth could finally show his quality in English football if he decides to make the move to Merseyside.
