Victor Munoz has broken his silence after choosing Liverpool over Newcastle United.

Victor Munoz has spoken out after turning down a move to Newcastle United in favour of joining Liverpool in a £35 million deal.

Newcastle had been confident of landing the Spanish youngster after agreeing terms with Osasuna and the player’s representatives. Club officials were even in the United States finalising the transfer.

However, the deal collapsed at the last moment when Liverpool stepped in and activated his release clause, beating Newcastle to his signature. Despite Newcastle already agreeing a fee, Munoz changed his mind and chose a move to Anfield instead.

The decision came as a major shock to Newcastle, who believed the player was heading to St James’ Park.

Speaking about his choice for the first time, Munoz said Liverpool was an opportunity he could not reject. He also revealed that new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola played a key role in convincing him to switch.

He explained that the move happened quickly and that his focus had been on international duty with Spain during the transfer talks.

“I’ve been focused on the World Cup and didn’t want to think too much about my future unless something concrete came up,” he said.

Munoz also confirmed that he underwent his medical while away with the Spain national team, but later suffered an injury. The setback has raised doubts over when he will be fully fit again.

He described the injury as frustrating, saying it has affected his dream of starting strongly at his new club, but added that he is working hard to return as soon as possible.

Despite Newcastle’s strong interest and advanced negotiations, Liverpool ultimately won the race for his signature, leaving the Magpies disappointed in the transfer window.
