Following the shock sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for a fee believed to be around £69 million last month, Eddie Howe and Newcastle’s recruitment team have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to identify a player capable of filling the enormous void left by the England international’s departure. The Magpies had appeared to be in a strong position to secure the signing of Osasuna sensation Victor Munoz, with optimism growing that the Spanish attacker would choose Tyneside as his next destination.
