adminLeicester City’s relegation rivals Blackburn Rovers have signed Nathan Redmond on a free transfer to strengthen their survival push.
Blackburn, who are currently three places and four points above Leicester, brought in the 32-year-old winger on a short-term deal after he left Sheffield Wednesday in January.
Manager Michael O’Neill was given permission by the EFL to include Redmond in the club’s 25-man Championship squad. This was allowed due to long-term injuries to key players, including Sondre Tronstad and Lewis Miller.
Redmond, who earned one cap for England national team during his time at Southampton, had previously left Burnley before joining Sheffield Wednesday on a short-term deal. He made seven appearances during his time there.
Now available again as a free agent, he has signed with Blackburn until the end of the season, with seven matches remaining. He has already begun rebuilding match fitness, featuring for the club’s Under-21 side.
Blackburn’s recent form has improved, picking up four points from their last two matches against promotion-chasing sides Millwall and Middlesbrough. That run has strengthened their position in the relegation battle.
Leicester, meanwhile, remain inside the relegation zone, sitting just one point from safety. The Foxes are set to face Blackburn at Ewood Park on the final day of the season in what could be a decisive clash.
Before that, Leicester still have key fixtures to play, including an important match against Portsmouth. Blackburn, on their part, will face West Brom on Easter Monday.
With only a few games left, every result could play a crucial role in determining which teams avoid relegation.
