Everton are reportedly closing in on a deal to re-sign John Stones from Manchester City this summer, according to Sports Boom.
The Toffees had hoped to qualify for European football this season but have struggled for consistency in recent weeks. Despite sitting just four points off seventh place with two games remaining, they now appear likely to miss out.
However, David Moyes remains keen to strengthen his squad ahead of next season as Everton prepare for another push forward, with the club now focusing on securing early deals in the summer transfer window.

Stones, who has been described as “world-class”, is reportedly preparing to leave Manchester City after ten years at the Etihad Stadium following a difficult campaign under Pep Guardiola.
The 31-year-old has struggled with injuries throughout the season and has fallen behind the likes of Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi, Abdukodir Khusanov, Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol in the pecking order, leading him to consider a fresh challenge elsewhere.
Several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United F.C., AFC Bournemouth and newly-promoted Coventry City F.C., are believed to be interested in the England international, but Everton are said to have made the most progress in negotiations.
It is understood that Stones sees a return to Merseyside as his preferred destination, believing he would have the opportunity to play regularly at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. A move would also suit him personally due to the short travel distance from his home in Chester. He is also said to maintain a strong relationship with Moyes, who originally signed him for Everton from Barnsley as a teenager.
Stones is viewed internally as the perfect blend of experience and quality, with Moyes believing he could help mentor younger players such as Jarrad Branthwaite, Tyler Dibling and James Garner, while also providing added competition in defence alongside James Tarkowski and Michael Keane.

Stones wants regular football, Everton want proven quality, and Moyes wants experienced leaders — making the move appear beneficial for all parties involved.
If he can stay fit, the defender could still push for a place in England’s World Cup squad, and Moyes is believed to want players of that calibre to help take Everton to the next level.
Having won multiple major honours during his time at Manchester City, Stones would bring elite-level experience back to Merseyside, while his leadership and knowledge could prove invaluable for Everton’s younger core moving forward.
