adminGary Rowett has addressed the media in his first pre-match press conference since Leicester City’s relegation was confirmed on Tuesday, speaking openly about the mood inside the camp, conversations with club leadership, and the situation within the squad.
The Leicester boss confirmed he had been in contact with club owner Khun Top but stressed that no detailed discussions had taken place about long-term plans.
“I spoke to him [Khun Top] this morning, he’s been here at the training ground. Not in- depth, we haven’t sat down and spoke about anything.”
He also reflected on comments he made earlier in the week regarding the club’s direction following relegation.
“said on Tuesday night, the club needs to act with clarity and I don’t think that can be in the next few days. That has to be over the course of weeks.”
Rowett admitted the aftermath of relegation has been difficult for everyone involved, describing the emotional impact on both players and supporters.
“It was always going to be very raw in the aftermath. I don’t think it’s any different. It’s still a massively disappointing moment for the club and you could see that after the match with the fans. It’s what happens next, that’s what’s key. A chance to rebuild in a more positive way.”
“I’m sure it’ll take a few more days and weeks for us to settle and get to grips with it.”
The manager was also asked about his own future at the club, and whether any conversations had taken place regarding his position beyond the current season. He acknowledged the uncertainty but suggested that rebuilding could still present an opportunity.
“It’s not going to be fantastic, it’s not going to be super positive. Today, we’re in work. We need to do it properly, we need to prepare for the game. To do our best for the league, for our pride. As you can imagine it’s taken a bit of lifting.”

Finally, Rowett revisited comments he made on Tuesday night, where he revealed he had spoken to his squad about commitment levels ahead of the final two games of the season.
He had told the players that those unwilling to participate should speak up.
He was asked whether any players had since indicated they wanted to be left out of the remaining matches.
