Barcelona enjoyed another strong domestic campaign under Hansi Flick during the 2025-26 season.
The Catalan giants won their 29th La Liga title and also lifted the Supercopa de Espana.
However, Atletico Madrid ended their Champions League campaign in the quarter-finals. The same opposition also eliminated Barcelona from the Copa del Rey.
Barcelona have since remained active in the summer transfer window as they reshape Flick’s squad.
They reached an agreement in principle to sign Rodri from Manchester City for a reported €76.5 million.
Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi also joined to strengthen the attack, while Joao Cancelo returned permanently.
However, Barcelona still want to add another centre-forward before the transfer window closes.
Julian Alvarez remains their main target for the position. Atletico Madrid have repeatedly refused to entertain a sale to Barcelona.
The Spanish champions therefore continue to assess alternative options in case their pursuit of Alvarez fails.
According to Radio MARCA (via SPORT), Barcelona are considering former Leicester City forward Ayoze Perez as one possible alternative to Julian Alvarez.
The Villarreal striker has emerged on Barcelona’s radar as the club explores other solutions for the position.
Hansi Flick also approves of Perez, while the forward would consider pushing for a move if Barcelona make an approach.
The 32-year-old remains under contract with Villarreal until 2028.
Perez also has a release clause worth close to €30 million, although reports suggest that figure could be negotiated.
However, Barcelona do not currently view Perez as one of their main priorities for the forward position.
The club still want to pursue Alvarez for as long as they believe a deal remains possible.
Barcelona are also looking for a forward capable of becoming an important attacking reference in Flick’s team.
For now, Perez remains an alternative rather than the leading option.
The Catalan giants will only widen their search further if Atletico Madrid completely close the door on a move for Alvarez.
