According to Italian outlet MilanPress, Newcastle United are interested in AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, who is expected to leave the San Siro this summer.
The former Chelsea defender is valued at around £30 million and has also attracted interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, while Coventry City manager Frank Lampard is reportedly keen on bringing him back to the Premier League.
Tomori, described as a “tremendous” defender, has just one year remaining on his contract with Milan, where he has spent the last five and a half years.
The 28-year-old’s pace and defensive ability could make him an attractive option for Newcastle as they aim to return to European competition. A move to St James’ Park could appeal to the defender, who has Premier League and Champions League experience.
Milan are reportedly expecting a significant offer for Tomori after he made 33 appearances in Serie A last season. However, Newcastle could face strong competition from Al-Hilal, who have the financial power to make a lucrative offer.
Newcastle Need Long-Term Defensive Planning
Tomori has been linked with Newcastle several times in recent years, and this summer could represent the perfect opportunity for the Magpies to make their move.
The England international has represented his country six times and would bring valuable experience to Howe’s squad.
Newcastle have endured a challenging transfer window so far, missing out on several targets. They were beaten to Victor Munoz by Liverpool, while Johan Manzambi, who had been identified as a potential replacement for Tonali, opted to join Aston Villa instead.
Although Tomori may not be a marquee signing, he would provide Newcastle with more defensive options. Fabian Schar recently signed a new contract but is now 34 years old, while Dan Burn is also 34, highlighting the need for the club to plan for the future.
