Jon Rudkin Drops BOMBSHELL Statements About Russell Martin Amid Another Relegation Scare After HUMILIATING 4-0 Defeat to Oxford United at the King Power Stadium

Russell Martin is facing mounting pressure after Leicester City suffered a humiliating 4–0 defeat to Oxford United at the King Power Stadium, leaving supporters furious and demanding answers from the club’s hierarchy.

The Foxes went into the match hoping to build momentum following their recent victory over Plymouth Argyle. Instead, the afternoon quickly turned into another nightmare as Oxford exposed Leicester’s weaknesses and punished them ruthlessly.

By the final whistle, the atmosphere inside the King Power Stadium had completely changed.

Sections of the Leicester support turned their anger towards Martin, with fans calling for the manager to be sacked. Oxford supporters even joined in with chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

But while Martin has naturally become the main focus of the criticism, another name has increasingly been dragged into the conversation — Jon Rudkin.

And there is an important reason why.

Rudkin was heavily involved in the process that brought Martin to Leicester City, with the club’s football leadership backing the appointment and presenting the former Southampton boss as the man capable of helping the club move forward.

At the time, Rudkin was unequivocal about why Martin had been chosen.

«“Russell’s appointment follows a thorough process and reflects the qualities that are important for Leicester City. He is a strong leader, a clear decision-maker and someone with a defined way of working.”»

Rudkin also insisted that Martin understood exactly what was expected of him.

«“He understands the responsibility that comes with leading the team and he is well placed to help us move forward with purpose and direction.”»

Those words have now returned to the spotlight after Saturday’s disastrous result.

Because Leicester are no longer simply dealing with one disappointing performance.

The club were relegated to League One last season and were expected to challenge for an immediate return to the Championship. Instead, Martin has won just one of his opening five league matches, with the 4–0 defeat to Oxford leaving the Foxes down in 17th.

And that has supporters questioning not only Martin’s future, but also the decisions made by the people who appointed him.

Martin, meanwhile, did little to hide from the reality of what happened.

Rather than attempting to disguise the scale of the problem, the Leicester manager admitted that his side had been too young and inexperienced.

He also accepted that his players had been naive and “a bit too soft.”

«“The learning is the team was too young, and too inexperienced at the end. We were naive and a bit too soft.”»

Martin then described the defeat as “a punch in the nose”, while insisting that his players must show character and respond.

«“It has been a punch in the nose today, but we have to be really brave and stand up.”»

But for supporters, those explanations may not be enough.

The anger has increasingly moved beyond the manager and towards the club’s wider football structure.

That brings Rudkin back into the spotlight.

The Leicester chief football officer has previously acknowledged that he is often portrayed as the club’s “bad cop”, while pointing out that he was also involved during one of the greatest periods in Leicester’s history.

Speaking about the criticism directed towards him, Rudkin said:

«“Jon is [seen as] like a bad cop. When we won the Premier League, it was because of Jon too, but nobody talks about that anymore.”»

He then made another revealing comment about the constant scrutiny surrounding his role at Leicester:

«“We are trying to find a black spot in a white sheet all the time, which is normal, I do the same.”»

Those comments have now been revisited by supporters following the latest crisis.

For many Leicester fans, the issue is no longer about one defeat. It is about years of decisions, recruitment, management appointments and the club’s overall direction.

And the timing could hardly be more uncomfortable for Rudkin.

He was part of the senior football leadership that oversaw Martin’s appointment, and his own words made it clear that the club believed they had found the right manager.

Yet just months later, Martin is under serious pressure after a disastrous start to life in League One.

Former Leicester winger Matt Piper has already described the Oxford performance as “a sackable performance,” adding further fuel to the growing debate over Martin’s future.

The club has not publicly confirmed that Martin is on the verge of being dismissed, but the atmosphere surrounding the hierarchy has become increasingly volatile.

Supporters want answers.

They want to know why a manager who was described as a “strong leader” and “clear decision-maker” is now struggling to get results from a team expected to compete for promotion.

They also want to know whether the same football leadership that appointed Martin is prepared to admit that something has gone seriously wrong.

For now, Rudkin and the rest of the hierarchy remain under pressure.

Martin’s next opportunity to respond comes against Stockport County, but after a 4–0 home humiliation, simply winning the next match may not be enough to restore confidence.

Leicester supporters expected a promotion push.

Instead, after only five league matches, they are already discussing another potential crisis.

And that is why Rudkin’s previous words about Martin’s appointment have suddenly become so significant.

He once insisted that Martin was the right leader to move Leicester City “forward with purpose and direction.”
