It could have been a completely different story if Patson Daka had converted his penalty just before half-time. Instead, Egil Selvik stood firm, denying the striker and silencing the travelling Leicester supporters. That moment summed up Leicester’s struggles a team short on confidence and ruthlessness when it matters most.
The numbers only deepen the concern. Leicester have now missed their last three penalties, and under Rowett, they have managed just seven goals in seven games. For a side fighting to avoid relegation, that return is simply not enough.
There is a growing sense that this season could turn into a nightmare. Just a year after dropping into the Championship, Leicester are once again battling to stay afloat, with inconsistency and missed chances threatening to define their campaign.
Injuries have only made matters worse. Goalkeeper Asmir Begović is sidelined with an ankle problem and may not feature again before his contract expires this summer. Defender Victor Kristiansen has already been ruled out for the rest of the season.
There is, however, a slight boost on the horizon. Harry Souttar and Jannik Vestergaard are edging closer to full fitness, while Aaron Ramsey could return in time to face Preston North End.
But Rowett’s biggest concern remains James’ injury. It looked serious, and his absence could deal a heavy blow to Leicester’s survival hopes. Even with defensive improvements, the Foxes know that without goals and with key players missing their situation remains dangerously fragile.
