Leicester City FC have been handed a massive boost ahead of their crucial run-in, with Jordan James avoiding a serious injury scare.

The midfielder, who has been the club’s standout performer and top scorer this season, was forced off during international duty with Wales after appearing to suffer an Achilles issue. Concerns quickly grew, and he was sent back early for treatment raising fears that his season could be over at the worst possible time.

James has not yet returned to full training since arriving back at Seagrave, but there is now real hope he could feature in Friday’s huge clash. The timing couldn’t be more important, with Leicester entering a decisive seven-game stretch that will define their season.

Speaking ahead of the game, manager Gary Rowett confirmed the situation is far more positive than initially feared.

“He came back for treatment,” Rowett said. “He landed awkwardly but it wasn’t anything as serious as people first thought.

“He’s recovering well. He hasn’t trained yet, but that’s the same for a number of players returning from international duty.

“We’ll make a decision soon. If you ask him, he’s convinced he’ll be fit — which is always a good sign.”

Despite the optimism, the club may still handle him carefully, especially with another important fixture coming shortly after. The aim is to balance his return without risking further setbacks during this critical period.

There are also encouraging signs elsewhere in the squad. Jannik Vestergaard and Aaron Ramsey are both pushing to return, while Harry Souttar has taken another step forward by playing 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors match.

However, Asmir Begović and Victor Kristiansen remain unavailable, leaving some gaps for Rowett to manage.

Decisions may also be needed on players like Patson Daka and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who only recently returned from international matches overseas.

“We’ve got players coming back,” Rowett added. “Some are closer than others, but overall, it’s a positive situation compared to where we thought we might be.”

With survival hanging in the balance, this unexpected boost could prove decisive — and suddenly, belief is creeping back in around the club at the most important moment of the season.
