The Lilywhites earned a 3-1 victory over Stoke City at Deepdale before the break. That result was a much-needed confidence boost, especially after a tough run of form.
Preston had gone seven games without a win, losing five of them, and an early goal from Sobra Thomas in the Stoke game seemed like it might continue that trend until they fought back and secured the win.
Now, Leicester City and manager Gary Rowett are waiting for them at the King Power Stadium. Rowett, formerly of Birmingham City, is focused on steadying the ship and keeping the Foxes from slipping into League One.
It has been a harsh season for the former Premier League champions. Ten years after their famous title win, Leicester are now staring the threat of relegation in the face.
Poor form on the pitch, combined with a six-point deduction for breaching EFL profit and sustainability rules, has forced the club to face the reality of the season. An appeal is underway, but a verdict won’t be known before the season ends.
After parting ways with Marti Cifuentes in January, interim manager Andy King struggled to make an impact. Gary Rowett was brought in February to try and turn things around.
Rowett said, “The players should be mentally refreshed. Our season will be defined by these next seven games, and we’re looking forward to the challenge. Every game we go out there wanting to win, so we need to find a way to do it.”
Leicester will also monitor Jordan James ahead of the Friday clash. The injury he picked up while with Wales isn’t as serious as first feared, and he remains in contention for selection for both upcoming Easter fixtures.
Rowett singled out James ahead of the game, saying: “You can see the quality he’s got shooting and scoring goals. JJ has been so important as a top goalscorer. I know his quality and energy, so he’s a key player for us.”
