Despite the poor outcome, Rowett has hinted that he would be open to taking on the job permanently, although no official decision has been made by the club. Meanwhile, the board has already begun exploring potential replacements, with several names linked to the role.
One of the leading candidates is Darren Ferguson, a four-time Peterborough United boss who has guided the club to promotion from League One to the Championship on three occasions. The 54-year-old is currently the odds-on favourite.

Speaking on the situation and the potential appointment of Ferguson, Rowett said:
“I’ve got no idea what I’m doing next. Hopefully, we’ll get an opportunity to sit down with the club and have a chance to tell them exactly what they need us to do. I think it needs some big decisions.
It needs someone brave enough to make those big decisions. Of course, I am going to say that I am the right person for this, but I also understand that the right process has to be followed. The club has to decide whatever they think is the right thing.”
He added:
“The most important thing is not me. It’s about Leicester City Football Club and making sure that the right person is there to help bring it back to life.”
