Just In – Newcastle’s Summer Reload Continues as Second Signing Moves Closer After €24m Deal

Newcastle United are set to continue their summer rebuild after agreeing a deal worth around £24 million with Stade de Reims for highly rated goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen.

The Magpies are expected to finalise the move in the coming days, with the 20-year-old set to undergo a medical before linking up with the squad for pre-season.

Jaouen will become Newcastle’s first signing of the summer after an impressive breakout campaign in France’s second division, where he played every minute and conceded just 35 goals.

He started his career at EA Guingamp before joining Reims in 2023, with loan spells at Rodez AF and USL Dunkerque helping shape his development. The French youth international is currently part of the Under-21 setup and is viewed as a long-term addition to Eddie Howe’s squad.

While the goalkeeper deal is close to completion, Newcastle are also actively working on defensive reinforcements as they prepare for a busy window.

The club are now considering a move for a right-back, with only Tino Livramento currently the established senior option following the departures of Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth.

Trippier has already agreed a two-year deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers after leaving St James’ Park at the end of his contract, further increasing the urgency to strengthen the position.

According to reports, Newcastle are showing interest in Guela Doue of RC Strasbourg, who has emerged as one of their key targets this summer.

The 23-year-old, who joined Strasbourg from Stade Rennais, has impressed with his consistency and attacking output from defence, registering goals and assists in all competitions last season.

Strasbourg are reluctant to sell but could be forced into a deal due to financial pressure, with reports suggesting a fee in the region of £25 million could be enough to open negotiations.

Doue, the older brother of Desire Doue, is also believed to be open to a Premier League move, with Newcastle’s project and squad rebuild making them an attractive destination.

The Ivory Coast international made 34 appearances last season, scoring twice and providing seven assists, and remains firmly on Newcastle’s shortlist as they continue reshaping their defence.
