Abdulhafiz TeslimNewcastle United have announced that goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos has rejoined Sevilla on a season-long loan deal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Greek international enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Spanish side last season, making 34 appearances and becoming a fan favourite thanks to his performances for the Andalusian club.
It was originally thought that Newcastle would look to capitalise on his impressive campaign by securing a permanent transfer away from Tyneside. However, it has now been confirmed that the 32-year-old will spend another year at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
In a club statement, Newcastle United said: “Everybody at Newcastle United wishes Odysseas well during his time on loan.”
Vlachodimos joined Newcastle two years ago in the controversial £20 million deal from Nottingham Forest, which saw Elliot Anderson move in the opposite direction for £35 million, as both clubs looked to ensure compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Having initially expected to serve as Nick Pope’s deputy, Vlachodimos instead found himself as Newcastle’s third-choice goalkeeper after the club opted against moving on Martin Dubravka, contrary to earlier expectations.
He made just one appearance for the Magpies, replacing Dubravka as a second-half substitute during Newcastle’s 1-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Vlachodimos still has two years remaining on his contract at St James’ Park, and it remains to be seen where his long-term future lies when he returns from his second spell in Seville next summer.
