adminLeicester City boss Gary Rowett has admitted the entire club is disappointed with their current league position following another frustrating defeat.
Speaking exclusively to ITV Central Sports Correspondent Dan Salisbury-Jones after the match, Rowett refused to shy away from the harsh reality facing the Foxes as they battle to avoid relegation from the Championship.
“We’re all disappointed with where we are,” Rowett said. “Nobody at this football club is happy with our standing in the table right now. The fans, the players, the staff we all want better.”
Rowett, appointed in February on a short-term deal until the end of the season, inherited a side deep in relegation trouble. Despite showing some defensive improvements in recent weeks, Leicester continue to struggle for consistency and cutting edge in front of goal.
The latest defeat has left the Foxes hovering dangerously close to the bottom three, with only a handful of games remaining. Rowett acknowledged the pressure but insisted the squad still has belief.
“Of course there’s disappointment, but adversity is part of the job in football,” he added. “We have to show character now more than ever. The players have given everything in training, and I know they care deeply about this club.”
Looking ahead to the run-in, Rowett outlined his hopes for a strong finish. He stressed the need for “scrappy, ugly wins” rather than chasing perfection, and called on the King Power Stadium faithful to get behind the team in the decisive weeks.
“We know what’s at stake. This is a big club with great history, and we owe it to everyone connected with Leicester City to fight until the final whistle,” he said.
With several key players potentially returning from injury and international duty in the coming days, Rowett remains cautiously optimistic that his side can pick up vital points.
However, he warned that nothing less than maximum effort will be enough in what has become a tense survival scrap.
