adminNewcastle have been told to bounce back from missing out on Victor Muñoz by hijacking another club’s transfer for a World Cup star.
The Magpies were forced to change their transfer plans after their top target completed a £34million move to Liverpool.
Eddie Howe was hoping to sign Osasuna winger Victor Muñoz as part of his summer rebuild, especially after Anthony Gordon’s departure to Barcelona for £70m. However, Liverpool triggered Muñoz’s release clause and quickly completed the deal.
Now, European football expert Andy Brassell believes Newcastle should turn their attention to South Korea international Lee Kang-in.
The 25-year-old is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer after struggling for regular minutes under Luis Enrique.
Brassell believes Lee could be a strong option for Premier League clubs looking to add creativity and versatility.
“Lee Kang-in could be a great pickup for a Premier League club this summer,” Brassell said.
“He’s been at PSG for the last couple of years but has mostly been a bit-part player, which doesn’t really reflect his talent.
“You have to look at the players he’s competing with in midfield and wide positions. He started as a winger but can also play in midfield, so he’s very versatile.
“He’s a good dribbler, strong on the ball, doesn’t give it away much, and can pick a pass or score a goal.
“But his progress has been slightly stunted at PSG because he’s often seen as a jack-of-all-trades. That’s a problem for versatile players sometimes.
“I think he needs a club where he can play regularly and fully use his strengths.”
Brassell added that Aston Villa could also be a strong fit for Lee Kang-in, especially given their need for more creativity in attack.
He also suggested Newcastle could still be a good destination for the South Korean star as they look to strengthen after missing out on Victor Muñoz.
“Newcastle are a good bet as well after missing out on Muñoz,” he added.
“But Lee is a player I really like, and I hope he goes somewhere where he can play regularly and show his ability.”
Lee Kang-in has also been in good form for South Korea at the World Cup, showing strong passing accuracy and creativity in midfield.
