BREAKING: RODRI, NOT ENZO: Real Madrid’s New No.1 Target Could See West Ham Receive an Irresistible Offer for a Fan Favourite Who Shined Throughout the Season

Real Madrid have been linked with West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes, and Fabrizio Romano has reportedly revealed that the Premier League club would demand £85 million (€98 million) for his signature.

It is no secret that Real Madrid are in the market for a creative midfielder with the ability to dictate play and break opposition lines with long-range passing. The Spanish giants have previously been linked with players such as Rodri, Enzo Fernández and Morten Hjulmand, but none of those rumours have developed into anything concrete so far.

While it remains unclear which midfielder Real Madrid will ultimately pursue this summer, Romano has indicated that the club are actively looking to strengthen in that area. Whether Fernandes becomes their chosen target remains to be seen.

Arguably, the Portuguese midfielder would be an ideal fit for Los Blancos. He is younger than many of the alternatives linked with the club and, although he would not come cheap, he could offer outstanding long-term value given both his age and potential ceiling.

Real Madrid may not necessarily need another established superstar. Instead, Fernandes represents the profile of player who could quietly transform the midfield. Comfortable dropping deep between the centre-backs, he excels at dictating the tempo, spraying accurate long passes and helping his team progress the ball from defence into attack.

It is also worth noting that there remains significant interest in Fernandes despite West Ham’s relegation last month. If Real Madrid decide he is the right profile for their project, they may need to act quickly, with several Premier League clubs also believed to be monitoring his situation.

What makes Fernandes particularly attractive is the unique skill set he would bring to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. Real Madrid currently lack a midfielder with his combination of passing range, creativity and positional discipline. While the team possesses several talented attacking midfielders and defensive-minded options, there is arguably no player who offers the complete package from deeper areas of the pitch.

The club’s creative players often operate in advanced positions, while many of the deeper midfielders are focused primarily on defensive responsibilities. Fernandes could help bridge that gap by contributing both defensively and offensively while serving as the team’s primary playmaker from midfield.

This is not to suggest that Fernandes is a direct replica of Luka Modrić, but there are certain similarities in the way both players influence games through intelligence, work rate and technical quality. It is a profile that Real Madrid have arguably missed at times over the past season.

Federico Valverde remains one of the club’s most important players thanks to his athleticism, defensive work and eye for goal. However, he is not naturally the creative orchestrator that Fernandes could become. Likewise, Eduardo Camavinga possesses immense talent, but he has yet to consistently provide the level of creativity and control that Real Madrid may be seeking from a deep-lying midfielder.

Fernandes appears to be a blend of many of the qualities modern elite teams desire in midfield. There are few obvious weaknesses in his game, and his all-round profile could make him an excellent addition to Real Madrid’s squad.

The reported price tag is undoubtedly substantial, but Real Madrid are one of the few clubs capable of completing such a deal. If the opportunity arises, the Spanish giants should strongly consider making a move for one of the most promising midfielders currently available on the market. This version reads more like a professional football analysis piece and avoids overly absolute statements.
