The Black Cats were rather unfortunate at Villa Park, battling back from 3-1 to level things up, before Tammy Abraham struck deep into second-half stoppage time.
However, they were utterly dismantled against Forest, going 4-0 down inside 37 minutes before Elliot Anderson finished the job after the break.
However, there is still plenty left to play for between now and the end of the season, while Sunderland will already be casting an eye toward the summer transfer window.
It’s the latter we’re focusing on here, with the latest rumours doing the rounds at the Stadium of Light.
The signing of Robin Roefs felt quite harsh at the time, given the key role Anthony Patterson played in Sunderland’s promotion from the Championship. However, the Dutchman has more than proven his worth. That still leaves Patterson searching for answers regarding his future, with the goalkeeper moving to Millwall on loan in January in search of regular minutes.
That move has gone well so far, with Patterson keeping five clean sheets in 13 Championship appearances, keeping the Lions well in the promotion hunt.
According to ChronicleLive, Millwall are exploring the possibility of keeping Patterson for the 2026/27 campaign, though any return to the Den could depend on whether they achieve promotion to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Championship winners Coventry City are also keeping tabs on Patterson amid uncertainty over Brighton loanee Carl Rushworth’s future, with Hull City and West Brom also credited with interest.
Sunderland to return for Victor Munoz
There has been high turnover on the wings at the Stadium of Light over the last year, with Simon Adingra’s swift January exit to Monaco just months after joining the club, and Nilson Angulo arriving as his replacement.
Before Sunderland signed Angulo from Anderlecht, they were heavily linked with Osasuna’s Victor Munoz. Ultimately, Sunderland were unable to meet the 22-year-old’s release clause, believed to be in the €40m (£34.7m) region.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Sunderland are once again showing interest in Munoz, with Osasuna bracing themselves for another summer approach from the Black Cats and other Premier League clubs. It is understood Osasuna will not reduce his release clause, although Real Madrid hold a buyback clause in his contract.
“Real Madrid have a three-year buy-back option that’s already agreed upon. What we’re doing is enjoying Víctor until the end of the season,” Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez explained.
“Many people criticised us for signing such a young player with so few minutes in La Liga. Now they’re asking us why we didn’t buy him outright. We accepted the terms Real Madrid set. Víctor made the right decision coming here, and so did we.”
Munoz has registered six goals and five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions since joining Osasuna last summer, helping them sit 10th in La Liga.
