adminWest Ham United skipper Jarrod Bowen has made it clear what he intends to do following his side’s relegation from the Premier League.
Bowen was on the scoresheet on Sunday afternoon as West Ham defeated Leeds United 3-0 at the London Stadium.
However, the win on the final day of the season was not enough to save the Hammers, as Tottenham beat Everton 1-0 to secure Premier League survival instead.
It means West Ham will play in the Championship next season for the first time in 14 years, with several big-name players expected to leave the club.
Bowen has inevitably been linked with a move away from West Ham, and he has now responded directly to speculation surrounding his future.
Bowen has not had his best season, although he is far from being solely responsible for the club’s struggles.
As captain, however, he will carry the disappointment of this relegation throughout his career.
The England international, who will not be going to the World Cup this summer, looked devastated at full-time against Leeds.
Bowen is one of several West Ham players tipped to leave, with Mateus Fernandes also expected to attract interest.
However, the 29-year-old gave no indication that he wants to leave this summer. In fact, he suggested the opposite when speaking to Sky Sports after the game.
“I’m under contract here,” he said. “I’ve been here six-and-a-half years and had some really high moments, but this is a low moment that will outweigh everything.
“There’ll be rumours and talk, nonsense out there, but ultimately what I see is getting this club back in the Premier League and where it deserves to be.”
Of course, the decision may not be entirely in Bowen’s hands if West Ham decide they need to cash in on their biggest asset, but the fact he is not pushing for a move is a major positive for the club.
