Matthias Jaissle reflects on NUFC horror show

Reflecting on a horror first-half, Jaissle said: “I think we were not matching as a team. The level of intensity, the level of duel behaviours, the level of physicality, this is something we need to bring on the pitch in every match, because, again, this is not negotiable; that should be the basic, the fundamentals in football.

“Even these are young lads, the learning curve needs to be fast.”

“I can just say that, of course, it didn’t help that we lost Nico in the first half,” Jaissle added. “You saw then that the team became younger and younger, and this is then something we need to be aware of.

“I said that many times, especially when it’s going to be tough, and that was tough, especially in the first half.

“Then additionally, unforced errors taking place before we conceded the goals, then you need to straightaway find the right reaction on the pitch, and today we struggled with that, definitely.”

Matthias Jaissle’s X-rated response after Leeds United defeat

The defeat was the Magpies’ first of the campaign, one Jaissle said he would immediately review as he and his squad headed back to the North East through the night via coach.

Jaissle is looking for a response when his side host newly-promoted Hull City at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

“For sure now the frustration is a big part of it,” said Jaissle. “It feels s–t, for sure. But we need to analyse it straightaway, that’s the most important thing. Already now we have a long bus ride to Newcastle, that’s already the first thing we can do.

“Always try to influence the things you are able to influence, and to work on that. Let’s know about it, know where we can progress, where we need to improve, and hopefully we can see that already on Saturday.”
