Despite Gordon’s exit, Newcastle have been busy reshaping their squad ahead of the new season. The club has already parted ways with several first-team players as it looks to create space for new arrivals and strengthen the squad.
One player closing in on a move to Tyneside is Stade de Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen. Newcastle are reportedly set to sign the 20-year-old for £24.6 million, a deal that would break the club’s transfer record for a goalkeeper, surpassing the £20 million spent on Odysseas Vlachodimos in 2024.
Reports in France claim an agreement has been reached, with Jaouen expected to arrive on Tyneside next week to complete the move. The goalkeeper has reportedly agreed a contract until 2030.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed the deal, posting on X: “Newcastle sign goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims for £24m, deal done and here we go! Contract until June 2030, as Canal Plus reported. Deal in place. #NUFC”
Strengthening the goalkeeping department has become a priority for Newcastle following the departures of Aaron Ramsdale, John Ruddy and Max Thompson. Meanwhile, Nick Pope is entering the final year of his contract and faces increased competition for the No. 1 spot.
The deal for Jaouen is understood to be worth an initial £21.6 million, with a further £3 million in bonuses. The French goalkeeper impressed last season, keeping 15 clean sheets for Reims in Ligue 2.
Newcastle’s move for Jaouen comes after the club decided against making Ramsdale’s loan move from Southampton permanent for £20 million.
