Newcastle United may have taken plenty of positives from their dramatic 2-2 draw with Liverpool, but Matthias Jaissle has now been handed a major concern just days before another important week begins.

The Magpies looked on course for a famous victory after taking a 2-1 lead against Liverpool, only for a late penalty to deny them all three points at St James’ Park. Despite the disappointment, Jaissle’s first Premier League game in charge offered plenty of encouragement.

However, attention has now turned to the Newcastle squad and, in particular, the growing concerns surrounding the team’s fitness situation.

The manager confirms that the Magpies already have several players working their way back from injury, while another important first-team player has now suffered a setback that could keep him out for a significant part of the opening weeks of the season.

Dan Burn Facing Lengthy Absence

Dan Burn is the latest Newcastle player to suffer an injury blow, with the defender now expected to miss around seven games.

Burn suffered ankle ligament damage and, despite the injury initially appearing to be less serious, the latest expectation is that he will not return until after the upcoming international break.

That could mean an absence until early October, leaving Jaissle without one of his experienced defensive options during a demanding period of the campaign.

Newcastle have a Carabao Cup meeting with West Bromwich Albion before travelling to face Tottenham in the Premier League, making Burn’s absence an unwanted development at an important stage of the season.

Other Newcastle Injury Updates

Burn is not the only player currently unavailable to Jaissle.

Joelinton remains sidelined with a groin problem and is expected to return around mid-September. Jaissle previously confirmed that the midfielder would be out for a couple of weeks while the club’s medical team manages his recovery.

Tino Livramento is also closing in on a return from his calf injury. However, the right-back is still expected to need another week or two before he can fully return to action.

William Osula’s situation is less clear.

The striker suffered an ankle injury after a clash with Virgil van Dijk during the Liverpool game. Early reports suggest the problem may not be serious, but Newcastle are yet to establish exactly when he will be ready to return.

A Difficult Period For Jaissle

The timing of Burn’s injury makes the situation particularly frustrating for Newcastle.

Jaissle is attempting to establish his methods and build momentum during the opening weeks of his reign, while the club are also navigating a difficult fixture schedule.

The 2-2 draw with Liverpool showed that Newcastle can compete despite the changes made during the summer. But losing Burn for such an extended period gives the new manager another problem to solve.

With several players still recovering, Newcastle will now hope there are no further setbacks as they prepare for the Carabao Cup and their trip to Tottenham.

However a major goodnews for the club as they will soon announce another major signing in the Midfied to continue the process of rebuilding after shocking Summer overhaul.
