According to a report from Sports Boom, Wrexham are now leading the race to sign Leicester midfielder Winks ahead of the summer transfer window.
The former Tottenham man, who joined Leicester for a fee of £10m, could be part of a huge exodus at the King Power Stadium if they are relegated from the Championship, which is looking increasingly likely.
The report claims that Wrexham are more likely to target Winks if they miss out on promotion to the Premier League, clearly seeing him as an ideal midfielder for the Championship.
Leicester are ready to try and recoup some of the £10m they paid for Winks, if they drop down to League One in the coming weeks.
Although there could be a major concern that a lot of Leicester’s squad have seriously underperformed this season, some of them might just need the right environment to flourish.
Leicester do still have some players who are more than capable of playing well in the Championship, including the likes of Winks, Abdul Fatawu, and Stephy Mavididi.
If Fatawu is unable to find himself a move to the Premier League, then Leicester should be looking to do everything they can to try to convince him to go on a promotion charge with them.
If they manage to secure themselves a place in the Premier League for next season, then Wrexham could become an attractive prospect to a player like Fatawu.
