Wrexham are closing in on another major addition as the ambitious Championship club continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the end of the transfer window.
The Red Dragons are determined to improve on last season’s disappointment after narrowly missing out on the Championship play-offs, and they have already been active in the transfer market.
Their recruitment has focused on strengthening key areas of the squad, with several new arrivals already through the door. But Wrexham are now set to make another important move and it could see them beat a Championship rival to the signing of a highly-sought-after defender.

The player in question has attracted considerable interest this summer following his return from a difficult spell on the sidelines.
Sheffield United were also keen on bringing him back after his previous loan spell, but their hopes of securing another deal were ultimately ruled out.
That has opened the door for Wrexham, who have now moved quickly to win the race.
According to Harry Watkinson, Wrexham have agreed a deal with Leicester City to sign defender Harry Souttar.
The 27-year-old is now set to make the move after several weeks of talks, giving Wrexham another major defensive addition as they step up their promotion ambitions.
Wrexham make major move for Harry Souttar
Souttar has endured a frustrating couple of years since rupturing his Achilles while on loan at Sheffield United.
Recovering from such a serious injury is challenging enough, but the Scotland-born defender also suffered further setbacks during his rehabilitation.
The 27-year-old finally returned towards the end of last season, starting Leicester City’s final two games of the 2025/26 campaign.
He made an immediate impact by scoring in the 1-1 draw with Millwall, although his goal could not prevent Leicester City from being relegated to League One.
It is therefore little surprise that Souttar has attracted interest from several second-tier clubs, particularly after playing a key role in Australia’s run to the FIFA World Cup round of 32.
His impressive form has strengthened his appeal, although it also means any club hoping to sign him will face a significant financial outlay.
Wrexham continue to strengthen for promotion push
Wrexham have invested heavily and recruited extensively in recent transfer windows.
However, after falling short of promotion for the first time in three years, the Red Dragons do not need a major squad overhaul this summer.
Instead, they have focused on strengthening key areas.
Anthony Patterson has bolstered the goalkeeping department, Danny Imray has arrived at right-back, while Ben Whiteman brings leadership and valuable Championship experience to midfield.
Souttar now looks likely to be joined by full-backs Issa Kabore and Jacques Ekomie in joining Wrexham this week.
The Red Dragons will then turn their attention towards the attacking addition they have been pursuing throughout the summer.
Mehmeti has been consistently linked with the club, although Wrexham face plenty of rival Championship interest.
Pavel Sulc is the real statement player being touted with a move to Wrexham, but that interest has quietened down.
