Leicester took 24 days to appoint a replacement for Marti Cifuentes. During that period, under caretaker boss Andy King, the club suffered three league defeats and an FA Cup exit. Rowett became available following his departure from relegation rivals Oxford United in December.
Meanwhile, former Leicester manager Enzo Maresca has broken a three-month social media silence with his first post since leaving Chelsea, hinting at a potential return to management.
Maresca, who left the Blues on New Year’s Day, shared a parting message on Instagram before going quiet online. Exactly three months later, he resurfaced, posting snapshots from a family holiday in the Maldives with his wife and four children, writing: “Enjoying the half term… Time to recharge!”
The post drew likes from Chelsea stars Robert Sanchez, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill. One of the photos reveals his workspace, complete with tactical manuals and stationery, suggesting he remains immersed in football and potentially preparing for a managerial comeback.
Speculation continues over Maresca potentially rejoining Manchester City, with reports linking him as a prospective successor to Pep Guardiola if the Spaniard departs the Etihad Stadium. Maresca previously managed City’s development squad and served as Guardiola’s assistant between 2020–21 and 2022–23.
His return to the public eye comes just weeks after he was spotted in the director’s box at Leicester’s Championship clash with Norwich City at the King Power Stadium. Alongside him were assistant managers Willy Caballero and Danny Walker, who helped guide Leicester to Championship promotion in the 2023/24 season before moving to Chelsea the following summer.
Leicester reportedly considered approaching Maresca for their managerial vacancy before appointing Rowett. The new manager now faces the critical task of avoiding relegation before the season ends.
During his tenure at Chelsea, Maresca oversaw 92 games, achieving 55 wins, 16 draws, and 21 losses, delivering both the UEFA Conference League trophy and the Club World Cup.
However, his relationship with Chelsea’s hierarchy became strained, a decision later criticized by Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella.
