Fans also don’t enjoy talking about the poor run of just eight points in eight games. But now that Rowett has said that this plan will continue, it’s something that has to be looked at and questioned.
The plan is slow and easy to read, and it doesn’t always work. If someone like Brendan Rodgers or Marti Cifuentes tried this, they would be heavily criticised and even mocked.
It feels like an easy way out from a manager who is running out of new ideas. It looks like a desperate return to old, long-ball tactics that don’t really fit in today’s modern style of football, even in the Championship.
“Clearly we’re lacking that type of striker where teams drop in and you need that extra aerial presence in there,” Rowett said.
“He’s [Vestergaard] an intelligent footballer, he’s an intelligent guy. He’s very good technically if he does get a chance on goal.”
The tall Dane can cause problems for defenders because of his size. But using a centre-back as a striker again and again shows a lack of better ideas from the manager.

Height doesn’t really matter for a striker unless they time their runs and jumps well and get good crosses into them.
