adminDespite Leicester City fighting relegation this season, a regular first team player has scored 10 times in 29 Championship appearances, with four assists to his name as well.
Whether or not Leicester City stay in the Championship, currently sitting in 22nd place of the table, he faces a rather uncertain summer, with his future at his parent club still unclear despite having a contract there until 2028.
“I’ve been impressed with James this season. Scoring that many goals for such a poor LCFC side isn’t easy, and doing so from midfield too. Whether Leicester City stay up or not, I think he’ll be aiming higher than them, so a permanent move or another loan at the King Power looks very unlikely.
“Rennes are doing well in Ligue 1. They sit in 7th and could be playing in Europe next season. After James’ goalless first season, he may be heading out on loan again, though expect Rennes to take a look at him in the summer and perhaps give him another chance.
“I think that’s the likeliest scenario. But anything could happen and I wouldn’t be surprised to see James back in the Championship, either on loan or permanently. Though Rennes signed James for £4million and after a good season with LCFC, Rennes might want a bit more for his sale.
“I could see one of the relegated Premier League teams going for him. He’s had links to the likes of Leeds United in the past and so a Premier League move can’t really be ruled out either. But I think top-end Championship is where he needs to be.
“An Ipswich Town or a Middlesbrough feels like a good fit. But if I had to bet on where he is next season, it’s France.”
“We knew that Jordan James was a top prospect from his time at Birmingham City. His stint in France with Rennes might not have gone to plan, but this season has shown just how much he has developed despite fairly limited opportunities.
“10 goals for Leicester City in 29 games equals what he managed in 105 for Birmingham. Granted, he’s had more opportunities in advanced areas, but James has proven his potential to be a great goalscoring midfielder going forward.
“The fact he has done so in a side that has struggled so much speaks volumes too. Such form should put him in with another chance at Rennes, but if they miss out on Europe, they will be under pressure to level up, possibly leaving James on the fringes.
“LCFC loan star James may get a shot at Rennes in pre-season, especially if Wales make it to the FIFA World Cup and he impresses. However, I think the most likely outcome is a permanent exit from the Ligue 1 side.
“Leicester City won’t have a chance of landing him, but James could definitely return to these shores.”
