Newcastle United’s long-term future could be heading towards another major turning point, with fresh discussions surrounding the club’s ownership, finances and ambitious plans for a potential new stadium. The latest development has raised plenty of questions among supporters, particularly over who could become involved if significant outside investment is eventually required.
The Magpies have spent the past few years building towards a new era, both on and off the pitch. Since the Saudi-backed takeover, the club has undergone huge changes, with increased investment, commercial growth and renewed ambitions to compete among England and Europe’s elite.
However, the stadium situation could prove to be one of the biggest decisions Newcastle face.
Plans for the future of St James’ Park have been heavily discussed, with the club previously exploring different possibilities surrounding expansion and the potential construction of a completely new stadium. Any project on that scale would require enormous financial resources, potentially opening the door to outside investment.
And that is where the latest speculation becomes particularly interesting.
Football finance expert Stefan Borson has been discussing whether a familiar figure could potentially become involved with Newcastle again if the club eventually looks for new financial backing.
That figure is none other than Amanda Staveley.
Staveley remains a hugely popular figure among sections of the Newcastle fanbase after playing an important role in the 2021 Saudi-backed takeover that transformed the club’s direction.
She and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, eventually left Newcastle in July 2024, bringing an end to their involvement with the club.
But her name has now returned to the conversation because of the possibility of major investment being required for Newcastle’s future stadium ambitions.
Staveley recently came close to securing a significant stake in West Ham United, although that proposed deal ultimately failed after being blocked by the club’s majority owner.
That experience has only added fuel to speculation about where her next major football investment could come.
However, a return to Newcastle would be far from straightforward.
Borson suggested that if Staveley were ever to become involved again, she would probably need to work with an entirely new group of financial backers. A potential takeover of Newcastle from the Saudi owners could reportedly require at least £1.5 BILLION, making any such move an enormous financial undertaking.
Borson ultimately described the possibility of Staveley returning as “not impossible, but pretty unlikely.”
So, despite the growing speculation, there is currently no confirmed plan for Staveley to return to Newcastle United.
For now, the focus remains on Newcastle’s stadium future, their long-term ambitions and whether outside investment could eventually play a role.
But with Amanda Staveley’s name once again being mentioned alongside Newcastle United, the story is certainly one that will have the Toon Army watching closely.
Could the woman who helped bring the Saudi-backed revolution to St James’ Park one day find herself back at the club?
For now, it remains speculation — but Newcastle’s future could still have plenty of twists left.
