Abdulhafiz TeslimNewcastle United are reportedly prepared to make Bruno Guimarães the highest-paid player in the club’s history by offering him a record-breaking £40 million contract, according to reports from The Sun.
The Brazilian midfielder, who captains Newcastle United, has attracted interest from Arsenal, but Eddie Howe remains determined to keep one of his most influential players at St James’ Park.
Guimarães currently earns around £160,000 per week and has two years remaining on his existing contract. At 28 years old, he is already among Newcastle’s top earners, but the club are reportedly willing to offer him an enhanced four-year deal worth £200,000 per week.
Should the proposed agreement be signed, it would become the most lucrative contract in Newcastle United’s history, with Guimarães set to earn around £40 million in wages over the course of the deal.
Reports suggest that both Arsenal and Manchester United could offer the Brazilian international higher wages should he indicate any desire to leave Tyneside.
Arsenal are believed to have already seen an offer worth around £55 million rejected by Newcastle, with the Magpies maintaining that their captain is not for sale. Reports also claim that the Gunners are considering a second approach, although Newcastle’s stance remains unchanged.
Guimarães is reportedly valued at around £80 million, though it remains unclear whether an offer in that region would test Newcastle’s resolve.
Meanwhile, Sandro Tonali is another Newcastle midfielder attracting significant interest, with Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs reportedly monitoring the Italian international’s situation.
The Magpies are said to value Tonali at around £100 million and would be extremely reluctant to sanction the departures of both him and Guimarães during the same transfer window.
At present, neither Guimarães nor Tonali is believed to be actively seeking a move away from St James’ Park, and Newcastle will be hoping that remains the case throughout the summer transfer window.
However, the club will remain aware that serious offers from Europe’s elite clubs can quickly alter the landscape of any transfer window, particularly when some of the Premier League’s biggest sides are involved.
