Everton are still in the process of prioritising their summer transfer plans, according to former chief executive Keith Wyness.

The former Everton FC chief believes the Toffees should focus on signing a new full-back and a forward this summer as David Moyes prepares for a crucial rebuild ahead of the club’s move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Moyes’ side are expected to narrowly miss out on European qualification this season, with several results needing to go their way on the final day. However, the Everton manager has already made it clear that bringing European football to the club’s new home remains a major ambition.

The Toffees are expected to strengthen multiple areas of the squad this summer, while club captain Seamus Coleman has already confirmed he will leave at the end of the season.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness discussed several players linked with Everton, including Ben White and John Stones.

Wyness also suggested that a move for Jack Grealish could be explored, although Everton’s wage structure and transfer priorities may make negotiations difficult.

He said: “Everton have not got endless amounts of money, and so there have to be priorities. Defence and attack are the two areas that need strengthening.

“Age is going to be a key factor, and that’s why John Stones may not get done in the end. I still see him moving abroad somewhere, while Ben White is a possibility, but we’re looking at a tight wage structure.

“We’ve also got to see how Jarrad Branthwaite recovers from his injury and whether there’s confidence in him coming back strongly because full-backs and forwards are the positions we’re short of.

“Question marks remain, but we’re entering the stage of the season where plans start to firm up and transfer targets become clearer. Moyes is very thorough, and we’re not there yet in terms of final decisions.”

Meanwhile, Everton have once again been linked with Liam Delap ahead of the summer transfer window after previously showing interest in the striker.

However, Wyness suggested Everton’s interest may have cooled due to concerns over whether the deal would fit the club’s long-term plans as Moyes carefully assesses his attacking options ahead of next season.
