The Foxes were beaten by one of their direct relegation rivals after Iban Bowat’s 63rd-minute strike secured all three points for Portsmouth. Leicester are now eight points adrift of safety with just three games remaining, and their winless run has stretched to six matches.
Despite the club’s struggles, loan midfielder Jordan James was named Young Player of the Year at the EFL awards. The 21-year-old has impressed during his spell at Leicester, contributing 10 goals and four assists since joining on loan from Rennes in the summer, making him one of the few bright spots in a difficult season.
James admitted it has been a tough campaign for the club but expressed pride in his personal progress.
“It’s been a tough season, one that we wouldn’t have liked,” he said. “On a personal note I’ve hit numbers that I didn’t think I was going to be able to hit at the start of the season. I had a tough period in France last season, so to come here and play my best football has been a good opportunity, and I thank Leicester for that.”
The midfielder also spoke about his long-term ambitions, hoping to continue improving and achieve more in his career.
“It’s been really good, there are a lot of top-quality players in this league and they’re bound to do big things, and hopefully I can do the same,” he added.
James is contracted to Rennes until June 2028, but it remains unclear whether he will be part of their plans when he returns. A permanent move to Leicester now appears unlikely, especially with the club facing relegation to League One.
Leicester must win all three of their remaining games to stand any chance of survival, but even that may not be enough depending on other results. Their next match is a home fixture against Hull City on Tuesday evening.
