No Bruno, No Problem? 😱 Newcastle United Act Fast After Arsenal’s Stunning Approach as They Target a New Midfield Superstar

Newcastle United have taken the first concrete step in a potential move for top talented Midfieder, with fresh contact made over the youngster.

The Magpies have been linked with the Danish midfielder in recent days as they prepare for Bruno Guimarães’ expected move to Arsenal, but reports from Portugal suggest the process has now moved beyond simple scouting.

According to O Jogo, Newcastle United have contacted Froholdt’s representatives to gather information about a possible transfer.

The Portuguese newspaper reports that Newcastle have sounded out the player’s camp to understand the conditions of a potential deal and whether Froholdt would be interested in a move to the Premier League.

However, that is currently the extent of Newcastle’s activity. O Jogo states that Porto have not received any contact from the club, and no formal proposal has been submitted for the midfielder, who was voted the best player in last season’s Primeira Liga.

With Bruno Guimarães edging closer to Arsenal in a deal that could reach €90 million (£77.8m), Newcastle know they will soon need to enter the market for a replacement.

The club’s Saudi-backed ownership means they are expected to have significant financial power if they decide to pursue a deal.

Porto remain calm

Despite Newcastle’s interest, Porto are not showing concern. The Portuguese champions believe they are protected by Froholdt’s €85 million (£73.4m) release clause.

This remains the starting point for any negotiations if Newcastle decide to follow up their initial enquiry with an official approach.

The second factor is Froholdt’s own stance. The midfielder has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain at Porto for at least another season and reinforced that message after scoring the winning goal in the Portuguese Super Cup.

“People talk about taking the next step, but for me Porto is already a huge club,” Froholdt said.

“I am focused on the next league match. I like being here. Now we are going all out for the championship.”

For now, Newcastle have only gathered information through the player’s representatives. Whether this develops into official club-to-club talks remains to be seen.
