Newcastle United’s 2026/27 pre-season preparations are officially underway at the KNOX training centre, with the squad returning in staggered groups following the conclusion of the recent World Cup.
Eddie Howe and his coaching staff have already begun putting the players through high-intensity sessions, with academy prospects being integrated alongside established first-team stars and the club’s new summer signings.
Five academy players have been called up to join senior squad members, including academy graduate Alex Murphy, while new arrivals Ewen Jaouen and Sean Steur have also linked up with the first-team group as they begin life on Tyneside.
The Magpies have also arranged a strong pre-season schedule to build fitness ahead of the new campaign, including behind-closed-doors fixtures against Darlington and Gateshead before an away clash with Bristol City on July 29.

Amid the preparations, Tino Livramento has delivered a positive update after returning to Newcastle training one month after suffering an injury setback that forced him to withdraw from England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
The 23-year-old full-back had been expected to play a key role for the Three Lions but was forced to leave the squad on the eve of the tournament after picking up a calf injury during training in the United States. Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah was called up as his replacement, while England went on to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
Livramento had already endured a difficult period with injuries, missing Newcastle’s final five Premier League matches of the 2025/26 season due to a thigh problem. Before his latest setback, he had made just four competitive starts in 2026.
The defender later underwent a minor surgical procedure as part of his recovery plan, with the aim of returning fit for Newcastle’s 2026/27 campaign.
Newcastle United confirmed:
«”We can confirm that Tino Livramento has successfully undergone a minor surgical procedure.»
«”The defender, who returned from World Cup duty with an injury, is expected to return during pre-season.»
«”Wishing you a speedy recovery, @tino_livramento.”»
Livramento was among the returning Newcastle players for pre-season training on Monday, although his involvement remains carefully managed as he continues his rehabilitation.
The right-back shared a picture from the gym on Instagram alongside a message thanking supporters for their support.
He wrote:
«”Working hard to come back soon. Thank you for all the messages recently, I really do appreciate all of you Geordies.”»
Newcastle supporters will now hope Livramento can complete his recovery without further complications and return to full fitness ahead of the opening fixtures of the 2026/27 season.
