Newcastle United fans have been handed a major boost on Friday morning as an important update emerges from St James’ Park

The Magpies have been busy preparing for a new era under manager Matthias Jaissle, with the club already making significant changes to the squad.

However, there have also been concerns over the future of some of Newcastle’s key players, with Manchester United reportedly showing interest in one of the club’s young stars during the summer transfer window.

Lewis Hall was linked with a move to Manchester United following the departure of several important players from Newcastle.

The 22-year-old left-back had attracted attention after establishing himself as an important part of the Newcastle squad since joining the club from Chelsea in August 2023.

Hall has already made 107 appearances for the Magpies and played a role in the club’s historic Carabao Cup triumph in 2025, when Newcastle ended their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

With Manchester United interest surrounding the player, Newcastle supporters were naturally keen to know what the future would hold for Hall.

The latest development, however, will certainly come as a huge relief to the club’s supporters.

Newcastle have now confirmed that Hall has signed a new long-term contract with the club, despite still having three years remaining on his previous deal.

Speaking after the agreement was announced, Hall made it clear just how much remaining at Newcastle means to him.

“I’m absolutely delighted. It’s a really proud moment. It’s an absolute pleasure to play for this club and to represent the supporters. I know how much it means to them,” he told the club’s website.

“The fanbase and the support we get here, whether it’s at St. James’ Park or away, it’s the best in the league in my opinion. To be able to bring joy to their faces, it’s a big thing for me.

“I obviously have a family connection with the club, which is incredibly important to us all. One of the main reasons I play is to make my family proud, and I know how much it means to them to watch me playing for Newcastle United.

“It’s a really good place to be. It’s really pleasing with how we’ve started the season, especially with the new gaffer and coaching staff coming in, and I think we can go on to achieve really big things.”

The timing of the announcement is another positive for Jaissle, who has relied heavily on Hall since taking charge.

The England international has played every single minute of Newcastle’s season so far, featuring in all three Premier League matches and both of their Carabao Cup victories.

Jaissle has also made his feelings about Hall very clear, describing him as an important player for the project he is building at Newcastle.

“I have been impressed with Lewis since I arrived. He is a very important player for us and for what we are building here, so this is exciting news,” Jaissle said.

“The combination of his ability and his profile make him an ideal fit for our squad, and his mentality is exactly what you want in a young player. He wants to learn every day and he wants to be better in every match.

“Lewis covers ground in a way that few players can. He defends with maturity and intelligence, and his technical level means he can support the team higher up the pitch.

“What excites me most is that I believe the best is still to come from Lewis. He has a lot of room to develop, and I am looking forward to working with him as he grows with us.”

Hall’s decision to commit his future to Newcastle is therefore another major boost for Jaissle and the club as they look to build something special at St James’ Park.
