Newcastle United have received a major boost in their pursuit of Johan Manzambi, with sources revealing that the SC Freiburg star is keen on making the move to St James’ Park this summer.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has emerged as one of Newcastle’s top transfer targets in recent weeks, and the player himself is reportedly eager for the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League.

Manzambi enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga and has continued to impress on the international stage, making him one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in Europe.

Freiburg are understood to be willing to allow their young star to leave, but only if Newcastle can meet their £42million valuation.

Newcastle confident of beating Manchester United to Manzambi

Newcastle are not believed to be concerned about competition from Manchester United, who have been long-term admirers of the midfielder.

Although United have monitored Manzambi’s progress and have him on their shortlist of midfield targets, Newcastle believe they are in a stronger position to complete the deal this summer.

The Magpies have already laid the groundwork for a potential move and are now preparing to push negotiations forward.

Manzambi’s performances at the FIFA World Cup have further increased his reputation, with the youngster contributing three goals and two assists during the competition.

Newcastle ready for major summer spending spree

Newcastle have significant funds available following the departures of key players, including Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.

The club are now expected to be aggressive in the transfer market as Eddie Howe looks to rebuild his squad after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign.

With around £170m generated from player sales, Newcastle have the financial room to complete several major signings before the new season begins.

Manzambi is viewed as one of the club’s priority targets, and Newcastle are working to secure a deal for one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
