Newcastle Confirm Another Exit After Anthony Gordon’s £80 Million Barcelona Move

Anthony Gordon has completed his medical with FC Barcelona after the club agreed a deal with Newcastle United to sign the forward in a major transfer move.

The agreement is reported to be worth around £69.3m (€80m) including add-ons, with Gordon set to sign a five-year contract. The 25-year-old is currently in Barcelona with his representatives and is expected to complete the formalities of the transfer shortly.

Barcelona reportedly beat competition from several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich, to secure Gordon’s signature. The winger is expected to join up with the squad soon, with an official announcement likely to follow after final paperwork is completed.

However, Kieran Trippier is set to join Championship side Wolves after leaving Newcastle United at the end of his contract.

The 35-year-old former England international has agreed a two-year deal, with an option for a third year. The newly relegated club see him as an experienced leader who can help guide them back to the Premier League.

The transfer is expected to be completed after a medical, which will take place when Trippier returns from a family holiday next week. He becomes a free agent after four years at Newcastle United.

Trippier joined Newcastle in January 2022 from Atletico Madrid and went on to make 160 appearances for the club in all competitions. He played a key role in their Carabao Cup success and was an important figure during their push for European qualification.

Wolves reportedly beat competition from several clubs in Europe to secure his signature, with manager Rob Edwards believing his leadership and experience will be crucial in the club’s promotion push.

Trippier had already announced earlier in the year that he would be leaving Newcastle when his contract expired, bringing an end to his successful spell at St James’ Park.
