Forest were first to play on Friday night, and they gave their survival hopes a massive boost with a huge 5-0 win at Sunderland. The result took them to just one point behind 15th-placed Leeds, with both sides having played the same number of games.
The result left Leeds and Forest clear of third-bottom Tottenham Hotspur and fourth-bottom West Ham. However, both Tottenham and West Ham had the opportunity to close the gap on Saturday afternoon with matches against Wolves and Everton.
Both games were played at the same time, and late goals gave each side a crucial three points. For Tottenham, it was their first league win of the year, a 1-0 victory at already relegated Wolves.
The match at Molineux looked set to end 0-0, but Joao Palhinha scored the decisive goal eight minutes from time.
West Ham, meanwhile, took the lead in the 51st minute at home to Everton through Tomas Soucek. However, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall equalised two minutes from time, seemingly dealing a major blow to their survival hopes.
But West Ham had the final say, as Callum Wilson scored the winning goal in the second minute of stoppage time to secure a vital 2-1 victory.
Following wins for both teams, Leeds now sit six points clear of the drop zone, ahead of third-bottom Tottenham, with four games remaining.
Despite their win, Spurs remain in the relegation zone, two points behind fourth-bottom West Ham, who are now just three points behind Forest and four points behind Leeds.
