Former Robert Huth has told Leicester City players they have “no leg to stand on” after facing heavy criticism from angry supporters.

Leicester’s relegation to EFL League One was confirmed following a 2-2 draw with Hull City. It marks only the second time in the club’s history they will play in the third tier.

The result capped off a poor season, with tensions growing between the fans and players.

Midfielder Harry Winks was seen reacting angrily after being abused while boarding the team bus following the defeat at Fratton Park. Initially, it was believed he responded to a Leicester fan, but Hamza Choudhury later suggested the comments came from a Portsmouth supporter.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Huth criticised the players’ reaction:

“That’s the most aggression I’ve seen from the squad, to be fair and it’s come a bit late.

“When you’re bottom of the league, you expect criticism from fans. It’s always been like that. Of course, it’s nicer to get praise, but they haven’t been performing, so the reaction is understandable.

“As a player, sometimes you just have to keep your head down and take it. There’s no point talking back because you’ve got no leg to stand on.”

Huth also reflected on Leicester’s overall decline this season.

“It’s been a long downfall. You could see it coming since the New Year. The atmosphere wasn’t good, and fans started turning against both the ownership and the players.

“Once the pressure increased, the team just didn’t have it. They looked weak and soft like they were just waiting for the season to end.

“I’ve been in that situation before. It’s not easy when everything is against you, but you still have to be responsible and do your job. They simply haven’t done that.”

He added that the relegation, while painful, may allow the club to reset:

“Everyone has been expecting this moment so they can move on, plan for next season, and try to get promoted again. But it’s going to be a very tough road back.”

Huth also pointed to poor recruitment as a major factor behind the club’s struggles:

“It just shows how quickly things can change in football. A couple of bad transfer windows, poor recruitment, and players not performing that’s what has led to this situation. It’s been very disappointing.”
