Leicester City Confirm 10-Year Title Anniversary Charity Match in Official Statement

Leicester City have announced plans to host a special charity match at the King Power Stadium to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their unforgettable 2016 Premier League title win widely regarded as one of the greatest underdog stories in football history.

The club confirmed the news in an official statement:

“We’ll mark the 10-year anniversary of our 2016 Premier League title with a charity match to raise funds through the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation.”

The event, titled the “5000/1 Anniversary Match,” pays tribute to the incredible odds Leicester faced at the start of that historic season. All proceeds from the match will go towards supporting local causes through the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation, which continues the late chairman’s legacy of generosity and community support across Leicestershire.

During the 2015/16 season, Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City side achieved the unthinkable. What started as a campaign focused on survival quickly turned into a title charge, as the Foxes stunned the football world by finishing above the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

Their triumph was confirmed on May 2, 2016, when Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea sealed Leicester’s place at the top. It marked the club’s first-ever top-flight title and sparked celebrations not just in Leicester, but across the globe.

At the heart of that success was the vision of club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. His belief in the club helped make the impossible possible. His tragic passing in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium in October 2018 remains one of the darkest moments in the club’s history.

Today, the foundation that bears his name continues his work, supporting charities, community projects, and causes close to the club and its supporters.

The anniversary match is scheduled to take place in May 2026 at the King Power Stadium. Full details including the exact date, ticket information, and participating players  are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Former players from the 2016 title-winning squad are expected to be involved, giving fans the chance to relive one of the most iconic moments in the club’s history.

The match is part of a wider set of celebrations marking a decade since that remarkable season, with tributes planned to honour the players and memories that defined it.

The announcement comes at an emotional time for Leicester City, with the club facing challenges on the pitch. But this event offers something different a chance to reflect, reconnect, and celebrate what the club has achieved.

More than just a football match, the evening will stand as a tribute to unity, resilience, and the spirit that carried Leicester to glory in 2016.

Fans can expect a special occasion one that not only celebrates silverware, but also the lasting legacy of Khun Vichai and the team that made history.

Further updates, including ticket details and how to support the foundation, will be shared on the club’s official channels in due course.
