Newcastle have already seen Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon depart this summer, while Alexander Isak completed a move to Liverpool last year after a lengthy transfer saga.
Guimaraes has further boosted his reputation with an impressive World Cup campaign for Brazil, registering four assists so far. His performances have naturally attracted interest from several top clubs.
Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring the midfielder. Newcastle have already rejected one offer from Mikel Arteta’s side, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes the Gunners could return with another bid.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said:
> “Arsenal had a bid rejected, £55 million. Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the player. He really, really likes Bruno Guimaraes.
> “Arteta has been pushing internally for this signing. It’s not the first time Arsenal have tried to sign him. They’ve admired him for a long time.
> “However, Newcastle have made money from the sales of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, and they have made it clear to Bruno Guimaraes and those close to him that they want him to stay.
> “It won’t be easy for Arsenal to get the deal done. They could try again because Bruno remains their top midfield target, but Newcastle’s current message is that the door is closed.”
Romano’s update suggests Arsenal have not given up hope of signing Guimaraes, especially if he continues to impress at the World Cup.
The Gunners may not be the only club keeping tabs on the Brazilian, with several top European sides likely to be monitoring his situation.
Ultimately, Newcastle must convince Guimaraes that his future still lies at St James’ Park. The midfielder joined the club from Lyon in 2022 for around €50 million and has played a key role in some of the club’s biggest recent achievements, including winning the League Cup and competing in the Champions League.
Now 28, Guimaraes is entering the peak years of his career and is enjoying what could be the finest World Cup campaign of his career.
If he wants to move to a club that regularly challenges for the biggest trophies, this could be the ideal time.
However, staying at Newcastle despite the departures of key teammates such as Isak, Tonali and Gordon would further strengthen his legacy among the club’s supporters.
