According to reports from Spain, Newcastle have now opened discussions over a potential move for a young Sevilla defender who has emerged as an affordable target this summer. With just one year remaining on his current contract, Sevilla are said to have made their stance clear: the player must either agree fresh terms or be sold before the transfer window closes to avoid losing him for nothing next year.
That situation has alerted several clubs across Europe, and Newcastle are believed to be among the frontrunners. The Spanish side are reportedly willing to listen to offers in the region of €10 million (£9 million), making the defender one of the most cost-effective options currently available on the market.
The potential transfer could also be connected to speculation surrounding Lewis Hall, who continues to attract interest following an impressive campaign. Manchester United have been credited with monitoring the England international, although Newcastle have shown no indication they are actively looking to sell. Nevertheless, the club are understood to be preparing for every possible scenario by identifying suitable alternatives.
The Sevilla defender fits the profile Newcastle are seeking. At just 23 years old, he has already gained valuable experience in La Liga and is known for his attacking qualities from the left flank. Last season he registered three assists while regularly providing width in Sevilla’s system.
His versatility is another major attraction. Although naturally a left-back, he is equally comfortable operating further forward as a left winger, giving Eddie Howe additional tactical flexibility during a long and demanding campaign that includes European football.
Newcastle’s recruitment strategy this summer has centred on signing younger players with high potential and resale value, while remaining financially disciplined under the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules. A deal in the region of €10 million would represent relatively low risk compared to many other targets currently being considered.
