“IS HE WATCHING THE SAME GAME?” Fans EXPLODE as Roy Keane calls Leicester flop ‘OUTSTANDING’

Right now, things are not looking good for Leicester City. This season has been rough from the start. After dropping out of the Premier League last year, many expected them to bounce back quickly. Instead, it’s been one problem after another.

They’ve had instability on the bench, with Martí Cifuentes leaving and Gary Rowett stepping in on an interim basis. On top of that, the club was hit with a six-point deduction for financial rule breaches, which made an already bad situation worse.

On the pitch, it hasn’t been any better. The team has struggled to win important games, and both their attack and defense have looked shaky.

As of mid-April 2026, they’re sitting 23rd in the EFL Championship table with around 41 points well short of safety with only a few matches left.

The latest blow came in a 1–0 loss to Portsmouth F.C. on April 18. That result has only made things more tense, as the fear of dropping again this time into League One is becoming very real. For a club that won the league in 2016, it’s a dramatic fall.

What really got fans talking, though, was Keane’s post-match take. The former Manchester United F.C. captain picked out a Leicester player and called him “outstanding” and “unplayable,” praising his ability to beat defenders and create chances.

Most of the backlash is aimed at Stephy Mavididi. His season has been far from impressive. In about 38 appearances, he’s only managed 2 goals and 1 assist. For a player who’s supposed to be a key attacking threat, that’s simply not enough.

Even in the Portsmouth game, he played over 70 minutes but didn’t make much impact and missed a decent chance before being taken off. Compared to his performances during the 2023/24 season when he was putting up strong numbers this is a big drop-off.

That’s why Keane’s praise feels out of touch to many supporters. They’re watching a team struggling week after week, and a player who hasn’t delivered, so hearing him called the “best” just doesn’t sit right.
