While the Greek international impressed during his season-long loan in Spain, the deal did not include any option for Sevilla to make it permanent.
As such, Vlachodimos will officially return to Newcastle, where he remains under contract until 2028. However, it is clear he is not part of Eddie Howe’s first-team plans, having made just one Carabao Cup substitute appearance since joining the club from Nottingham Forest for £20 million in 2024.
According to Seville-based outlet Estadio Deportivo, Sevilla remain interested in signing the 32-year-old goalkeeper on a permanent basis, though a deal could prove difficult due to the finances involved.
Vlachodimos is keen to leave Newcastle this summer in order to secure regular first-team football and has spoken positively about his experience in Sevilla, expressing a desire to remain.
However, due to the significant PSR-influenced transfer fee Newcastle paid for Vlachodimos and the fact he is only two years into a four-year deal, the Magpies are looking to secure a reasonable transfer fee in order to cut their losses and avoid further financial rule complications.
Reports from Spain claim Newcastle value Vlachodimos at around £10 million, which would likely price Sevilla out of a move. While another loan deal could still be sanctioned, a permanent exit is the preferred outcome for both the player and the club.
It comes as Newcastle completed the signing of 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims. There is also uncertainty surrounding the future of Nick Pope at the club.
